The study of the earliest humans to arrive in the Western Hemisphere continues to provide exciting and unanticipated discoveries. The Clovis culture is no longer considered the first people to arrive in the Americas as seen by the number of pre 14,000 year old sites in North and South America . In fact, the Clovis culture has been re-dated with modern radiocarbon dating technology and found to be a relatively late and short lived phenomenon. Most recently, physicists and geologists have found strong evidence that a comet-like extraterrestrial impact at 12,900 years ago may have caused the extinction of mammoths and mastodons and put an end to the Clovis culture. Florida sites and artifacts have also been playing a role in these developing stories. There is no charge for this program. Recommended for adults, suitable for ages 12 and up. Downloadable Flyer
